Dollar Tree vinyl on mug

I took the plunge and decided to try out the Dollar Tree permanent vinyl. It's quite thin and I doubt it would hold up over time but would work okay if the item is handled with care. It doesn't cut nicely with dies - at least not the thin metal dies. I don't know about the steel rule ones. I think the plastic stretches itself under the pressure so it doesn't really cut through nicely, even when turning the die. I've had the same issue with glitter paper from there.

So I had to finish off the cutting with a craft knife and scissors. Then I tried to clean it up better using a hot tool and accidentally hit it in a few spots with the collar of the hot tool melting the vinyl. You probably can't tell the difference in the photos where I cleaned up edges but you can see where I hit it with the heat tool in spots. I used a mug I already had - the words that were on it had scratched off over time.

I'll probably end up using the vinyl mostly for card backgrounds. I have no interest or need to put vinyl all over stuff and especially one I don't think will hold up. I did buy a roll of holographic, too, because I want to use it for a house number. I'll probably try to seal around the edges with something so it would hopefully keep from peeling up in the outdoors.
